Borderlands 4 (BL4): Weapon Container Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Weapon Containers are the most abundant loot source in Borderlands 4 — hundreds of openable objects spread across every area of Kairos, forming the everyday gear economy alongside Red Chests and White Chests.

Unlike specialised chests, Weapon Containers encompass a wide variety of lootable objects and are typically found in plain sight — important for keeping ammo stocked, testing new gear combinations, and finding level-appropriate upgrades throughout the campaign.

Every confirmed spawn point is tracked at exact coordinates on the interactive BL4 game maps.

Four Types of Weapon Container in Borderlands 4

In true Borderlands fashion, loot hides in unexpected forms. Four distinct container types are tracked in this guide:

  • Standard Weapon Chests — grey or green military crates, the most common container type. Found on rooftops, cliff edges, inside caves, on crane arms, under pipes, and in camps across all four regions.
  • Fridges — refrigerators inside houses, barns, and destroyed buildings. A series staple. Several tracked in Coastal Bonescape, including one found during the Meat is Murder Side Mission.
  • Toilets — portable and standard toilets placed in camps, facilities, and outposts. A Borderlands tradition — always check the portable toilets.
  • Lockers and Cabinets — frequently contain pistols, shields, or cash.

The Randomised Spawn System

Weapon Containers operate on a fully randomised system with two important properties:

Not every container spawns in every run. Spawn points are probabilistic — the same position may contain a crate on one visit and be empty on the next. MapMaster documents every confirmed spawn point across the full map, so no viable location is missed.

Several entries can spawn as Red Chests instead. A number of positions in this guide are annotated as "Possible Red Chest location" — these spawn points can appear as either a standard Weapon Container or a higher-quality Red Chest on any given visit. Returning to these positions on different sessions is particularly efficient since a Red Chest roll from the same spot yields significantly better loot.

Containers regenerate over time. Revisiting an area after some in-game time has passed respawns loot at each container position for a fresh randomised roll. There is no cooldown requirement for revisiting — leaving and re-entering an area is sufficient to reset eligible containers.

Mission-Gated and Order Silo-Dependent Containers

Several containers are only accessible in specific circumstances:

Mission-gated containers — accessible only during or after associated missions:

  • Tonnage Peel (Queen's Cradle underground) — three containers in the underground area, reachable by elevator only during Unpaid Tab Main Mission
  • Heart of the Mountain — two containers accessible only through It's a Whole Phase Situation Side Mission
  • The Howl containers — several accessible at the end of TASK-series Side Missions (Free for the TASKing, TASK and Ye Shall Receive, TASK Master)

Order Silo-dependent containers:

  • The Howl (Weapon Chest x2, tower top) — the pair of containers atop the tall tower is only reachable via the Kit Hole Order Silo zipline; capture the silo first to access them
  • Dissected Plateau — one chest is accessible only via the Deep Seven Order Silo zipline

All mission-gated and Silo-dependent entries are flagged in their guide entries with the prerequisite cross-linked.
